Great Ocean Road - Day 3 Port Fairy to Port Campbell AM

After another horrendous night with both of us coughing constantly, Ian phoned Toby as we are very worried about staying with them and keeping the whole household awake.  Although Toby wasn’t concerned about it (he really doesn’t know just how bad we both are) I think he heard the desperation in Ian’s voice.   He was brilliant; told us to leave it with him and he’d find us somewhere to stay.  Within 10 mins he’d texted to say he’d booked us in a chalet at a local holiday home complex for 2 nights - someone to take it on and sort something for us was absolutely just what we needed at that moment.

Feeling much relieved we set out for a walk around Port Fairy town, which is very quaint with many old  bungalows a lot of which remind us of old railway stations (and clearly the owners too).

We wandered along the river but the weather was a bit dull

I stopped to photograph some Long-Billed Corellas on a lawn but an oick drove his UTE straight through them, loudly announcing they were pests.

Then we headed out to Griffith's Island which is a nature reserve.  Apart from a couple of red wallabies which quite frankly could be clones as they all look identical.

and a white fronted cormorant

We didn't see much in the way of nature, but we spent a lot of time watching the waves and surfers.

The lighthouse area was quite picturesque.

These lads were having a great time sand boarding, but as soon as they knew I was taking photos (I asked, they were quite happy) they fell off each time.

Heading back to the car we didn't bother with a camel ride!

Back in town and we stopped off for a bite to eat.  For the first time we had something other than chips or cheese and tomato sandwiches - we had toasted cheese and tomato but it was on Turkish bread and it was delicious.

On to the start of the real Great Ocean Road.
