Having finally de-stressed ourselves over everything that could go wrong; from snowbound airports, through missing planes and losing luggage to bushfires, we were standing in Boots this morning having an argument with the pharmacy (they would only sell us one bottle of cough syrup even though two adults were there!) when my mobile rang.
"Hello Jennifer, it's the Breast Care Nurse here, nothing to worry about but is it convenient to talk to you now?
I explained I was in a shop but would be free in half-hour if she could kindly call back, which she agreed.
I know she said it was nothing to worry about, but I've not heard from them since about October 2018 - I've been through the chemo, Herceptin and first mammogram without hearing a word (not that I expected to, no news is good news etc) so to suddenly receive a call was very, very unsettling to say the least. The fact that tomorrow we're flying to the other side of the world made it 100 x more unsettling.
3 hours later and she still hadn't rung back, so I phoned and left a message (you never can get through) and waited again. Time was passing and I was concerned if I left it much longer, all the BCNs would have clocked off for the day, so we decided to go to the hospital and speak to someone.
The receptionist was very helpful and found the BCN in question who came out to me and ushered me through to the Quiet Room, still saying I shouldn't worry.
And indeed I need not have done; it was a routine follow up to remind me they were still there for me for 5 years should I need anything or have any concerns or be struggling with the Letrozole.
"Well that's very nice of you and I was told this at the beginning, but why today? What on your system triggered you to call me - it's not the anniversary of anything?" said I, explaining about the holiday and how the call had freaked me out.
Apparently the follow up should have been 8 months after surgery (which was Aug 18) but they've been short staffed so I've only just got to the top of the pile.
All's well that ends well ........................................ but what unfortunate timing!
