Having got the Indian Pacific booked we then set about organising the Adelaide to Geelong leg, which will incorporate The Great Ocean Road, hailed as one of the most scenic roads in the world. There is a shorter, quicker route Adelaide-Melbourne but its inland and not nearly so picturesque.
We plan to take our time and have booked motels en route for 4 nights.
The only "fly in the ointment" at the moment is the dreadful bush fire tragedy which is ravaging South Australia, New South Wales and now Victoria. The "fire season" started unusually early this year and already there has been loss of life and enormous loss of property, land etc. and we feel desperately sorry for all those affected. We have been monitoring the situation closely via both South Australia and Victoria's Fire Service Apps which are completely up-to-date and give advice and evacuation warnings when necessary. Unfortunately both states have different looking maps and symbols.
Once we get to Adelaide we plan to seek advice and listen to local media to ensure our route is a safe one and well away from any potential trouble.
